First Impressions: Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Helloooo beauties! 🙂 Today I have a review of the newly released (well in Australia at least – we’re a little behind) Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. I had seen beauty gurus on Youtube raving about this product for a while now and couldn’t wait until it hit the stores in Australia. I’m going to try and keep this review short and sweet as I know that some don’t enjoy reading a whole thesis! So let’s get straight to it….

DSC01971

Price: $21.95 from Priceline – Pretty expensive for drugstore but not out of the norm considering most drug store products are pricey in Australia.

Packaging: Very similar to the Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara.

Wand: Curved plastic wand. Two types of bristles – larger bristles on the outside with smaller bristles on the inside. The smaller bristles are designed to coat each and every lash.

Formula: Quite wet – takes a while to dry.

Pros:
– Provides a decent amount of curl
– Fans out the lashes and provides length
– Doesn’t flake throughout the day
-Isn’t overly clumpy

Cons:
-Wet formula – takes time to dry
-Doesn’t give much volume to my lashes

Here are some before and after pictures…

Verdict: I don’t love this mascara but I don’t hate it either. It is a decent mascara but it doesn’t give my lashes much volume. It definitely separates my lashes and gives them length and curl though. I think it’s good for a natural, everyday look. I like that it doesn’t flake throughout the day or become overly clumpy. If you’re looking for something natural for every day wear – this might be it!

Can you recommend any mascara’s which give volume to the lashes? Let me know in the comments below!

June Favourites!

DSC01945

Hello beauties! It feels like I haven’t posted in forever. Today I have my June monthly favourites to share with you. There aren’t a lot of products but nonetheless I hope you enjoy! =)

Origins Make A Difference Plus + Rejuvenating Moisturizer:

My skin can get super dry and the cold weather doesn’t make it any better. I picked up a few samples from the Origin’s skin care range a couple of weeks ago from Mecca Maxima and this moisturizer was so amazing that I just had to buy it. As the name suggests it definitely does make a difference to the skin. I no longer have noticeable dry patches and my skin feels highly rejuvenated. It does have a strong scent and contains a lot of essential oils so if that is something you’re not big on I’d definitely recommend getting a sample first before purchasing because it is more on the pricey side ($55 AUD).

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation:

After having a not  so great experience with the Chi Chi Fabulous and Flawless foundation (you can check out my review here) I decided to purchase this foundation and test it out. I have tried the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum last year I quite liked it so I figured I would give this a try. I have been loving this foundation lately and I think I prefer it over the serum. This foundation has a light texture which blends into the skin beautifully and allows for a medium yet buildable coverage. It’s great for my dry skin because it is very hydrating and has a dewy finish. I love that it comes with a pump so it makes application easy. It has a strong fruity scent which I personally don’t mind. I would highly recommend this foundation because of its lightweight texture and radiant finish.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette:

I was so excited when Urban Decay launched in Australia a few months back! One of the first things I wanted to purchase was their famous eye shadow palettes but I wasn’t quite sure which one. After having a look at the three palettes I decided to purchase the Naked 2 because it has a lot of cool toned shades. I’m not going to go into too much detail about this product considering the naked palettes have been raved about for the longest time now. It has so many beautiful shades which can be used to create both day time and night time looks. . The eyeshadows are extremely buttery in texture and highly pigmented. It definitely is not cheap at $78 AUD but if you’re somebody who uses eyeshadows on a frequent basis it is definitely worth a try!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick – Aria:

This has been my go-to lip shade lately. Perfect for winter! Aria is a beautiful berry/plum shade which is highly pigmented and long lasting which dries to a velvet finish. I’m not usually the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks because of the drying factor but this wasn’t overly drying or chalky at all. One thing I don’t like is that the wand dispenses way too much product which makes it difficult to apply – I prefer going in with a lip brush for more precision. Other than that, I absolutely love this product and the colour pay off!

MAC Lip Liner – Soar:

This highly raved about lip liner has become one of my favourites lately. It is a beautiful mauve pink which compliments my skin tone and I think this looks wonderful on Indian skin tones. I’m not going to provide a lengthy description of this lip liner because you have probably heard it a billion times on Youtube and other blog sites! It is very creamy and glides on easily. I think this paired with Velvet Teddy is the perfect combination. I also like to wear it on its own but only if I’ve moisturized my lips properly! Absolutely LOVE this lip liner! A must have in my opinion.

Review: Chi Chi Fabulous and Flawless Foundation

I have heard a lot of rave reviews about this foundation. I decided to try it out to see if it actually lives up to its name of being “fabulous and flawless”. To be honest, I really wanted to like this foundation; but it didn’t work for me. I really like Chi Chi as a brand and I am a big fan of their eye shadow palettes but I’m not a fan of this foundation. I have the shade #4 Natural which is meant for “fair to light skin with neutral to slightly yellow undertones”. I think I could have gotten away with one shade darker as it is a little light for my skin tone.

First of all, it is so patchy on me! That might be because I have really dry skin; but it clings to all my dry patches and it just isn’t a good look. This is rather disappointing considering it is claimed to be super hydrating on the skin. Another thing I didn’t like about this foundation is that I needed quite a few pumps to get an even coverage. One pump barely covered half of my face and ended up looking quite streaky. The foundation also has a very strong floral scent. It isn’t unpleasant, but if you don’t like fragranced products then you probably won’t enjoy this.

Chi Chi claims that this foundation is long wearing and smudge-proof but that wasn’t the case for me. Even with a setting powder it didn’t last more than a few hours on me without looking blotchy. I do really like the packaging though. The frosted glass bottle is quite chic. I also like that it comes with a pump – nothing annoys me more than foundations without a pump! It is paraben free which is also great!

I really don’t know why there are so many rave reviews about this product. I guess it just depends on personal preference and the fact that everyone’s skin type is different. I won’t be purchasing this foundation in the future which is a shame because I was actually quite excited to try it after hearing so many great things about it.

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments! Thank you for reading! 🙂

Review – Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

In my May favourites post, I included the Too Faced Better than Sex mascara (strange name for a mascara right?) and I mentioned that I would be posting a review of it soon. Apparently this is one of the best selling mascaras in the Mecca Maxima stores here in Australia. It retails for $29 AUD and I think that’s a pretty decent price considering it is more of a high end product.

With the first use I was pleasantly surprised at how much volume and length it added to my lashes in just one coat. I think two coats are enough to achieve a noticeable difference; any more coats and I would think it would make my lashes extremely clumpy because the formula is on the thicker side. The colour is definitely a true black which is also a plus. What makes this mascara so unique is the shape of the brush; the hourglass shape allows the mascara to coat and separate each and every lash whilst still achieving volume and length.

Here are some pictures of how my lashes look with two coats of mascara, (sorry they aren’t the best photos – by the time I get home it’s already dark so I have to resort to using flash!). I think this is pretty impressive; I can hardly achieve this with three coats with some other mascara’s I have tried. My lashes are naturally quite curly so I think it did a good job of curling my lashes further. I love the dramatic effect it gives.

I think the downside of this product is the fact that the wand collects a lot of excess product. This can be tricky especially when avoiding any clumping. As you can see in the photos my lashes do look a little clumpy but I don’t mind it as long as it isn’t extremely clumpy.  It also tends to flake a little throughout the day which annoys me but I think the pros really outweigh the cons in this case. I have definitely been reaching for this mascara a whole lot since I purchased it. It gives a wow factor to the lashes and with just one coat makes lashes noticeably longer and thicker. I would definitely repurchase this again. I’m not usually the type to splurge a lot on mascaras but I’m really impressed!

Sorry if the photos aren’t the best quality. I’m currently on the hunt for a better camera so if any of you could recommend a good camera for blogging please let me know!

May 2015 Favourites…

blogphoto

Hi guys! I missed out on posting my April Favourites so I thought I would skip straight to my May Favourites post considering it is almost the end of May. I hope you enjoy this post!

P.S – I must apologise for the not so good quality of the photo.

Urban Decay All Nighter Make Up Setting Spray: A few months ago Urban Decay finally launched in Australia (about time right!?). Having heard many great things about this setting spray I knew I had to try it. This product works wonderfully. It has definitely become a staple in my make up regime especially if there is any special occasion or simply if I want my make up to last throughout the day and night. It dries extremely fast and doesn’t feel sticky or uncomfortable on the skin at all. I think this is a must have for every girl out there who wants their make up to stay put (who doesn’t right?). It is quite expensive here in Australia but I honestly think it’s worth the splurge. I have tried other cheaper setting sprays and none of them do the job as well as this. I can confidently say that my make up still looks put together after a long day/night with this setting spray.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: I had been eyeing this mascara for quite some time. I’m always on the search for my ‘holy grail’ mascara and while this isn’t exactly my holy grail, it definitely comes close. What I love about this particular mascara is the unique shape of the brush. It is shaped like an hourglass and this helps to coat every single lash. When I first used it, I was amazed at the noticeable difference it made to my lashes in just one coat. It adds a great deal of length and curl to my lashes as well as volume. What I don’t particularly like is that it can tend to flake throughout the day and this is the main reason why it isn’t exactly my ‘holy grail’. If it weren’t for that, it probably would be! I definitely love it enough to include it in my favourites.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer: I have a love hate relationship with this bronzer. I will go months without using it and then I will go through phases where I will use it pretty much every single day; which has been happening a lot lately. It’s so easy to use for a natural, everyday look where I just want a slight contour or I can definitely build it up if I want more definition. I love that it isn’t shiny and it isn’t orange nor does it appear muddy at all. I’m not the biggest fan of the brush which comes with it but it does the job when I’m in a rush. It’s great for adding a healthy glow to the skin along with adding some definition and colour back into the face. I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging; but I guess what matters most is the quality of the product, right!?

Revlon Powder Blush – 004 Wine Not: Let me start off by saying that this blush is no way NEAR as dark as it is showing up in the photo (sorry for the bad lighting). In reality, it is in between a dusty pink/berry shade with cool undertones. I think it is great for the colder months. It isn’t very pigmented at all. This might be an issue for some but personally, I sometimes prefer this because I’m quite heavy handed so this is great for when I’m in a rush. It gives a nice flush of colour to the cheeks without looking over the top. It’s also matte which is great especially for Autumn/Winter. I personally think the brush that comes with it is quite useless but the product as a whole is quite nice.

MAC Velvet Teddy Lipstick: Like I said in my Lip Product Addict Tag post, if I had to choose one lipstick to wear every single day, it would be Velvet Teddy. I often have trouble finding nude lipsticks for my skin tone because a lot of them wash me out but this is literally the most perfect nude. It is very pink toned with a hint of brown – the perfect combination in my opinion. It definitely looks a little darker in the tube than it actually is. I love the formulation; it’s matte but it doesn’t tug on my lips or accentuate any lines on my lips. It also lasts a considerable amount of time on me and I think it looks beautiful paired with MAC’s Soar Lip Liner. Velvet Teddy is such a beautiful lipstick which will suit so many skin tones!

Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Liner – Blackest Black: This is one of my favourite liquid liners. I have been wearing it a lot this month. My favourite part about it is the tip, it is extremely thin but quite firm. This allows for more precision and I find it so easy to apply especially when I’m in a rush (doesn’t it seem like I’m always in a rush!?). The pigmentation and formulation is quite good, it goes on very smooth. It does tend to fade a little throughout the day but it is nothing too noticeable. I think this eye liner would benefit beginners out there who want something which is easy to use, I would highly recommend it.

I hope you enjoyed this post! 🙂

Lip Product Addict Tag!

I have seen this tag floating around for quite some time now and being a lipstick lover (and hoarder) I thought it was high time that I do the tag! If you have been following my blog for a while now, you are probably aware that lipstick is no doubt my favourite beauty product, a girl can never own too many lipsticks I say! Now, on to the questions…

1. What is your favorite balm or treatment?

I really like the Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. I love the tingly feeling it gives and it always leaves my lips feeling soft and hydrated. If I’m not using the Beeswax Lip Balm then it’s usually some good ol’ Lucas Paw Paw ointment.

2. What is your favorite eye catching red?

Definitely the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl, it is such a beautiful shade! I don’t think I have ever come across such a stunning red. It is blue tone toned and definitely more of a pink-red. Although it is a matte lip product, it is not drying at all and glides on so smoothly.

3. The best luxury and drugstore product?

Best luxury would have to be the YSL Rouge Volupte range, especially in the shade number 9, Caress Pink which is a beautiful, muted raspberry pink. I find that it is the perfect shade for everyday and the formula is super hydrating on the lips.
In terms of drugstore, I definitely think that Rimmel offers a range of lipsticks in some very beautiful shades and finishes. The Lasting Finish Kate Moss range in particular is one of my favourites, especially number 107 which is a gorgeous deep red with plum undertones. I love the finish because it is matte but not drying at all and lasts a considerable amount of time on my lips.

4. Best MAC lipstick?

It’s so hard for me to choose just one! I’d definitely say Velvet Teddy is my favourite. Such a beautiful nude lipstick which suits so many different skin tones! If I had to choose one lipstick to wear every single day it would definitely be Velvet Teddy. I’ve also been loving Diva lately which I think is perfect for Autumn/Winter.

5. Most disappointing lip product?

I can’t think of a specific one at the moment but I really haven’t had much luck with liquid lipsticks. I find that most of them are so drying and flaky on my lips, it definitely isn’t a nice feeling. Let me know if you’ve tried any liquid lipsticks which you can recommend.

6. Lip Liner: Yes or No?

I don’t always wear lip liner but if I am wearing a bold lipstick then I think it is really important to wear lip liner. So, I would say yes!

7. Favorite gloss?

I think the NYX Butter Glosses are really good quality for the affordable price. They aren’t sticky at all and they come in so many different colours. I also love the scent of them! They smell delicious! My favourites are Apple Strudel and Vanilla Cream Pie. I also really like Nars Turkish Delight.

8. Something else?!

I really don’t know what I’m meant to say here… haha. I’m going to use this opportunity to ask whether any of you have tried any Tom Ford lipsticks? Are they worth the splurge!?

Life Update…

Hey guys! Hope you are all well! It has seriously been forever since I last posted. I miss blogging so much! Starting a new job has been really overwhelming and I just haven’t had time to post anything which sucks! Just thought I’d quickly update you all and let you know that I haven’t stopped blogging for good or anything like that; I just have not had time lately as work and life has really got in the way. I hope to start posting again really soon! I hope you all have a lovely weekend and you’ll definitely be seeing more posts from me again! 🙂 xo
